AMTK 501 heads out of town along with Santa Fe FP45 5944 and F45 5934 in a rare mixed Amtrak/Santa Fe consist.

There are very few photos of SDP40Fs taken in June 1973, but here's one of AMTK 501 working as part of the consist on the "Southwest Limited".

PURCELL OK June 25 1979 -- Amtrak SDP40F 501 traverses the superelevation from the south on train 16 The Lone Star. EMD built the 501 (s/n 72694-2) in June 1973. Most of the 501s internal components were used in construction of F40PHR 329.
