Amtrak SDP40F 630 was leading the northbound <I>PANAMA LIMITED</I> out of New Orleans on the NOUPT <I>WESTERN CONNECTION</I>. This was the Cold Storage Road grade crossing and the sign on the left read PRIVATE ROAD - USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! This road was in really rough shape. (approximate date)
The late afternoon winter sun was nicely illuminating a pair of SDP40F's on train No. 58 - the northbound <I>PANAMA LIMITED</I> - as it crosses Cold Storage Road, on the <I>WESTERN CONNECTION</I> from New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal to the Illinois Central Gulf at Southport Junction. At the time of this photo, my office was on the 52nd floor of that tall white building, which also offered photo opportunities.
Amtrak SDP40F 630 leads the northbound St. Petersburg section of the Silver Star across the Hillsborough River near Tampa, FL. She would later work in freight service as ATSF 5253, then BNSF 6963. This former SAL line is still operated by CSX. Date of photo approximate.
