SOO 6048

CP train 470 tip-toes along the 10mph trackage of the Owatonna Sub just south of Blooming Prairie, MN, behind an all-red lashup of SOO 6048, CP 5929, DME 6086 and CP 5946. The day started off cloudy and rainy, but by the time of this mid-afternoon shot, the clouds are gone and the temperature has soared to 75 degrees. This is likely one of the few times that a SOO SD60 has traversed this ex-Milwaukee Road trackage north of Austin, and it would prove to be a timely catch. Train 470's schedule would change about a week after this photo was taken, resulting in nocturnal running along this line, and the SOO 6048 itself would go under the knife just two months later, emerging as CP 6248 the following summer.

Cool shot, I recall when all of this type power roamed the CP system.I saw it frequently on the D&H in New York state. Miss those red SOO units, especially in the snow. Home page 01-05-2026
