17th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 5 April 1964. Shown here are the Pennsylvania Railroad's Locomotive Ready Tracks near Juniata's 17th Street Bridge. Many makes and models are represented. Of the 35 or so locomotives visible here, the following are identifiable by road number. Starting from the bottom right are PRR engines #8673, #8665. and #8672. On the next track over are PRR engines #8663 and #8676. All five are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. #8673, #8672, and #8676 were built in March of 1958, while #8665 and #8663 were built one month earlier. The name of the lone Hostler pictured here is not recorded. Visible in the distance is a portion of the 8th Street Bridge.
