Description:  A Union Pacific local approaches Diridon on Track 1. This part of Caltrains route is actually owned by UP. Caltrain owns only the trackage between San Francisco and Santa Clara, about 10 miles from here. At Santa Clara, the Caltrain tracks split from the UP main. At Diridon, its common to spot Caltrain, Amtrak California, and UP trains all at the same time.

The 1420 sports tagging on its engineer side, and has a battery box door that looks like its 5 years older than the rest of the engine. The units, a GP38-2 and GP40-2, were built in 1980 for Missouri Pacific and Southern Pacific respectively.
