Chaney from the inspection car at the rear of the train pulled by K-5 No. 5699. Another section of the Inspection Trip is about to pull up and pass Chaney's train. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #3768, #4046, and a pair of "I" Class (2-10-0) "Decapods" whose road numbers are not recorded. #3768 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during June of 1920 and retired in October of 1953. #4046 is a B-6SB (0-6-0) switcher built in February of 1924 and retired in August of 1950. In this context, the "Pacific" is departing the Station with a passenger train, the switcher awaits its next assignment, while the "Decapods" are powering a freight train up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Partially visible in the background are some of the PRR's 12th Street Car Shops. It's classic Altoona railroadin'!

This locomotive may have been involved in a wreck: the front of the smoke box is gone, as is part of the left cylinder assembly, and the pilot steps are bent back.
