IC DOCK JOB
Title:  IC DOCK JOB
Description:  Illinois Central GP38-2 9628, originally the ICG GRENVILLE M. DODGE, was on the DOCK JOB bringing cars from the railroad’s MAYS YARD to STUYVESANT DOCKS YARD and the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad. The shot was taken at Dakin Avenue, near the line between Orleans and Jefferson parishes. The Norfolk Southern piggyback car behind the locomotive was rebuilt from a boxcar, while the track in the foreground was once the Kansas City Southern’s connection with the NOPB.

The 9560 was originally Gulf Mobile & Ohio 740, while the 1039 was the last locomotive acquired by the IC before it became a part of the Canadian National.

Daylight and Green Diamond
Title:  Daylight and Green Diamond
Description:  We're standing along the parallel Illinois Central Gulf and New Orleans Public Belt tracks near Jefferson Avenue, where the two main lines of each railroad cross. ICG GP10 8114, SD20 2024 and GP40 3031 are heading away from us, going to Mays Yard after delivering intermodal train No. 55 to the railroad's IMX (InterModal eXchange) at Nashville Ave. and the Mississippi River. Espee 4449 is sitting on the New Orleans Public Belt westbound main track, after having spent a week on display at the 1984 Louisiana World's Fair. Earlier this morning an NOPB switch engine had moved it from the fair site to here, and it is waiting for an ICG switch engine to accompany it to New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. The Daylight and its matched set of cars left for home in Portland, Oregon the next morning. Daylight engineer Doyle McCormack has placed the number "5" in the locomotive's train numbers boxes. Number 5 was the westbound ARGONAUT, the secondary train between New Orleans and Los Angeles.

TWO GM CLASSICS
Title:  TWO GM CLASSICS
Description:  The picture quality isn't very good, but the subjects are superb! One fine day in 1968, a 1956 Chevy Corvette and a 1941 Electro-Motive Division E6A posed side-by-side at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. The two E-units are on a ready track, and departed later that afternoon on the northbound PANAMA LIMITED. The 4003 has been recently repainted. It wears the large lettering and numbers introduced in 1967; but still has the old nose treatment, where the orange extends up over the top headlight. It should have a split-rail nose emblem, but one hasn't been applied yet! (month approximate)

IC SD40A 6011
Title:  IC SD40A 6011
Description:  An especially dirty Illinois Central SD40A 6011 sits outside the diesel shop at Mays Yard. The engine still has its L-shaped windshield and dynamic brakes, but has lost its Gyralight. Only 18 SD40A's were built, all for the IC in 1969 and 1970. They utilized the longer frame of the SDP45, so they could have 5,000-gallon fuel tanks. The switch engine in the background is SW1M number 13.

ICG Depot
Title:  ICG Depot
Description:  ICG GP8 7986 poses on the main line beside the depot at Arcadia, Louisiana; on the Vicksburg-Shreveport line. Notice all of the LNG tank cars on the depot house track. Today this line is the KCS/NS Meridian Speedway.

Arcadia is the seat of Bienville Parish, and achieved some notoriety on 23 May 1934 after the infamous outlaws Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow had an unfortunate encounter with some law enforcement officers near here. After the shoot-out, the outlaws' bodies were brought here to Conger's Funeral Home for embalming. The "Barow Gang" had just robbed a bank in Gibsland, eight miles away, and met their demise southwest of Arcadia on Louisiana State Highway 154. Another Bienville Parish landmark is Driskill Mountain, about ten miles to the south. At 535 feet, it is the highest natural point in the state of Louisiana.

The locomotives are GP10 8187 with GP40's 3059 and 3058. The GP40's were built in 1967 as part of the first order of new locomotives delivered in the orange-and-white paint scheme. They became KCS 795 and 794 two and a half years later.

ICG GP10 8461
Title:  ICG GP10 8461
Description:  This unit was one of only a few Paducah-rebuilt geeps with a genuine EMD slanting low nose. The 8461 had been built as IC GP9 9305, and its frame number was confirmed as 5553-6. It was rebuilt as orange-and-white GP10 8461 in March 1977, with a standard ICG flat-top nose; but this was damaged in an accident at Bluford, Illinois in early 1979. The 8461 was repaired with an EMD low nose, probably from IC GP18 9423, and received the current orange-and-gray paint job and a new rebuild date of December 1979.
