Newest repaint
Title:  Newest repaint
Description:  And the CIRR paint shop cranks out another one. This is a former Conecuh Valley unit now apparently about to find a new home between Waterford and Enterprise AL as it is stenciled for the Wiregrass Central. Here is what it looked like a few weeks ago: http://bsmith3608.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3523934

Description:  The 2882 was one of the orignal NSRR GP38 units. With the Southern takeover of NSRR, the unit got the standard SOU high hood but its branchline fuel tank and lack of dynamics gives its heritage away

The 2882 is one of three ex NSRR units on the WGCR at this time. It sports patched out NS markings and a logo but no reporting marks or railroad identifiers like sister 2883

Description:  The unit is pulling 50 grain cars westward past the feed mill lead switch so the other three units powering the train can come out of the lead and couple to the rear and spot the cars.

Title:  The whole operating fleet is capured in this picture.
Description:  The four units worked as a consist to move the grain from the CSX interchange at Pinchard, AL to Enterprise. With not siding to run around, the train set out three units in the feed mill lead and used the four unit to pull the train slowly clear of the switch so the three could couple to the rear and switch the train into the loading shed.

These three units made up the bulk of the operating power on the line in the early 2000s. Wiregrass Central seemed to be a preferred location to shake down newly acquired power by G&O Railways over the years.

Hows this for confusing
Title:  Hows this for confusing
Description:  O.K....lets see if I get this straight. We are looking at a unit that began life on the old Norfolk Southern Railroad. It became a Southern unit upon the buyout of the old NSRR. It later became a Norfolk Southern unit following the Southern/NW merger. Then it was sold to the Gulf and Ohio and sublettered for the Wiregrass Central. Recently it has seen action on another G&O property, the Chattahoochee and Gulf. Now the C&G has been bought out by a unit of the G&W and apparently this unit went with the sale. I say so because not the G&O wings that had been on the cab have been removed.

In 2004, the feed mill and primary customer on the Wiregrass Central is worked by usual power of the time. The ex SP GP sports a gray version paint used on a very few units before the black was made the official colors.
Title:  In 2004, the feed mill and primary customer on the Wiregrass Central is worked by usual power of the time. The ex SP GP sports a gray version paint used on a very few units before the black was made the official colors.
Description:  The train actually split its power, leaving these in the lead and used a fourth GP38 to pull the cars past the loader so these three could couple up to the end and shove the cuts into the loading cover. A neat way to reverse power on a train without a siding was this novel move.
