| Description: |
Built in 1947 by Budd in Lot #9613-004 as NYC 56 seat chair #2953, 1 of 60 such cars (#2900-#2959) built in that Lot, which was ordered in March 1944; cars were delivered between October 1946 and March 1947. In 1973-1974 and 1976, 52 of these cars were sold to Amtrak as #5630-#5635 and #5640-#5685; the #2953 was sold in 1973 as #5685. Many of these cars were retired and stored, either in 1981 or 1983, including 9 cars which were selected for conversion to HEP (not including the #5685), but after Amfleet II deliveries began, these plans were cancelled and a number of the cars were sold in 1988. I have no records pertaining to when the #5685 was sold, just that it, and several other cars, were retired in October 1983. Scanned with an Epson V550 from an original 35mm slide, brand is unknown. Exact date is approximate. |
