| Built in 1947 by Budd in Lot #9613-004 as NYC 56 seat chair #2953, 1 of 60 such cars (#2900-#2959) built in that Lot, which was ordered in March 1944; cars were delivered between October 1946 and March 1947. In 1973-1974 and 1976, 52 of these cars were sold to Amtrak as #5630-#5635 and #5640-#5685; the #2953 was sold in 1973 as #5685. Many of these cars were retired and stored, either in 1981 or 1983, including 9 cars which were selected for conversion to HEP (not including the #5685), but after Amfleet II deliveries began, these plans were cancelled and a number of the cars were sold in 1988. I have no records pertaining to when the #5685 was sold, just that it, and several other cars, were retired in October 1983. Scanned with an Epson V550 from an original 35mm slide, brand is unknown.
