CGW GP9m 120
Chicago Great Western Railway GP9m 120 and caboose 604 at Ingalton, Illinois on March 13, 1966, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built as a GP7 in September 1951 (c/n 14719) on EMD Order 5102, this unit was rebuilt in January 1956 by EMD into a GP9M (see Comment below, thanks Dustin) , using major components from the trade-in, wrecked GP7, retaining the GP7's 1,500 horsepower and road number. It became C&NW 120 after the July 1968 merger, became C&NW 4337 after rebuilding at the C&NW's former CGW Oelwein (Iowa) shops during December 1974, receiving a lowered short hood, was sold in 1989 to the Livingston Rebuild Center (Livingston, Montana), and in 1993 became MRL 115.

Dustin Smith General CGW 120 was not wrecked per say... it was caught in the Sept.15.1955 Chicago Forty-Sixth Street Roundhouse Fire. Sent to EMD order 8041 for repair. It has been suggested that the unit had frame numbers from the original order and the rebuild order. 1/25/2016 1:26:07 AM
Chuck Zeiler General Good information, thanks. 1/25/2016 11:01:52 AM
