CB&Q 2-8-2 Class O-1-A 4943
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 2-8-2 Class O-1-A 4943 at Ardmore, Missouri on November 11, 1960, Kodachrome by unknown photographer, Chuck Zeiler collection. Built by Baldwin in May 1923 (c/n 56575), this locomotive was leased to the ten mile coal hauler Bevier & Southern in 1959 to replace CB&Q 4955, who's flues had expired. It worked on the B&S until 1963, when it was eventually replaced See Comment below, thanks L. Beckman) with CB&Q NW2 9400A. Presumably the slogan, Have Train - Will Haul, was borrowed from the popular television show of the late 1950's, early 1960's, Have Gun - Will Travel.

L Beckman General Chuck - The 4943 was actually replaced by O1a # 4963, which then was replaced by the NW2. If the 4943 had been the last steamer on the B&S, then it would have been the one eventually purchased by Dick Jensen instead of the 4963 (which is now at IRM in Union, IL). 8/23/2011 1:06:59 PM
