L&N 2739
One-month-old L&N U23B 2739 switches at the west (railroad south) end of the railroad's Gentilly Yard, at the old Jordan Road grade crossing. It's August in New Orleans, and the switchman is dressed for the weather!

Earl Hampton General I think this might have been L476 which was called the "Bay Turn". Probably the road crew has already turned the train over to a yard switching job. The train would pull in to go to the South yard (west end of Gentilly) as most cars would be going back north. This practice is still done today, train is called the M732. Late in the day ordinarily one can see a pair of GP40s near Jordan Rd. 1/29/2010 11:23:42 AM
