CSX Detour
Because of some problem on the CSX's former L&N line out of New Orleans, CSXT train 572 in sitting on the Norfolk Southern's BACK BELT at Terminal Junction, preparing to nead north on the NS as the second section of NS train 194. The train had backed west out of the CSX Gentilly Yard three and a half miles onto the NS at L&N Junction -- between the second and third overpasses -- and then pulled up to here to change crews. The locomotives were CSXT GP38-2 2598 (ex-L&N 4088), C&O GP40-2 4384, SBD U30B 5323 (ex-SBD 5540, nee L&N 2504) and CSXT GP40-2 6097 (ex-B&O 4198).

Earl Hampton General I remember as an operator at NE Tower seeing this type of situation (may not be this particular train) where CSXT would back out with the man on the caboose watching the signals as they backed up. I have pictures somewhere........ This was right around the time when cabs were being phased out. 2/25/2010 12:11:29 PM
