Pickle Rick General CSX SD40-3? Wow that cab looks good. Way to go CSX! 12/21/2010 2:55:34 PM
Switchman Images General Sweet Baby Jesus, that thing is U-G-L-Y!!!! 12/21/2010 3:42:18 PM
Douglas Hailey General That cab is very different 12/21/2010 6:55:55 PM
Ryan Martin General Now THAT is one ugly mofo... YUCK. 12/21/2010 7:05:43 PM
Cody Camorote General It looks like it's made from a LEGO kit! As Eric said. U-G-L-Y!!!!!! 12/21/2010 7:50:49 PM
Sean Gulden General It's simply the same cab and nose NRE uses on it's Gensets mounted on a SD40-2 body. 12/21/2010 8:05:42 PM
CJ Read General CSX put the U in GLY. This thing looks like a Honda Element on steroids. 12/21/2010 8:06:10 PM
Jerry Sires General No imagination or design. Looks like a shoebox painted blue then put on wheels. LEGO does come to mind now that someone mentioned it. 12/21/2010 8:07:59 PM
Sean Gulden General It's simply the same cab and nose NRE uses on it's Gensets mounted on a SD40-2 body. 12/21/2010 8:09:17 PM
Nick ODell General It may not look like a brand new loco from EMD in the 1980's, but at least it *kinda sorta* still looks like an EMD. Heck of alot better than SOME class 1 railroads doing loco rebuilds that I could mention.........Juniata who? I give HHR two thumbs up on these units. I think they look cool, and I don't say that very often anymore when it comes to CSX stuff. 12/21/2010 9:23:30 PM
Tolga (brickbuilder711) General @ Jerry and Cody-- The nose looks exactly like the LEGO BNSF GP38 set. I guess an Adult LEGO enthusiast came up with it, LOL. All you need is white cheese wedges (part 50746) and you're good to go. I got to whip up one of these (I am into the hobby). Anyway, this is the ugliest EMD unit redo I've ever seen. 12/21/2010 10:09:15 PM
Kevin Peck General Anybody out there remember the Ford Edsel? This thing is truly sucking on a lemon! Can't wait to get a pic . 2010, a space oddity. Did they weld a boxcar to a Loco? LOL! Should be a great new catch for railfan photograghers! 12/21/2010 10:26:23 PM
Ted Marshall General You guys are whacked - I like it. In fact, I think I have a new fav. Great catch. ;-) 12/21/2010 11:51:45 PM
Bote Man General I appreciate the fluid, aerodynamic design that bespeaks a railroad that is going places, perhaps even symbolizing how tomorrow moves. Or not. 12/22/2010 12:49:21 AM
David Stewart General i still vote ugley, what is wrong with the old EMD version? I guess this thing has better crash worthyness in there some where, but yes, great catch and nice shot, this could be a short lived thing and be rare units 12/22/2010 1:35:07 AM
Jerry Sires General The nose sort of reminds me of the GE's the Monongahela operated. 12/22/2010 2:43:30 AM
Kevin Peck General LOL! Couldn't have said it better!!! I appreciate the fluid, aerodynamic design that bespeaks a railroad that is going places, perhaps even symbolizing how tomorrow moves. Or not. 12/22/2010 8:03:39 AM
David Harding General This is definately a face only a mother could love. This is a close second in the ugly department after the Amtrak AMD103/P40-42/Genesis units from GE. Got to wonder what CSX was/is thinking (or smoking?) to come up with this. YUCK CSX !!!!!!!!!!! 12/22/2010 10:43:49 AM
Greg Shindledecker General I have visions of SF CF-7's dancing in my head... 12/22/2010 11:45:52 AM
Nick ODell General The new cabs are safer (collision posts), have more room, full microprocessor computer controls, climate control.... sometimes the functionality is more important than what it looks like. I don't see how this is any uglier than an NS SD60E. 12/22/2010 6:59:58 PM
Steve Lasher General Move over Frankenstein. It's alive! It's alive. 12/23/2010 4:12:15 PM
Larry De Bert General Is it meant to scrape icicles off of tunnel portals? Then it is not high enough or wide enough. 12/24/2010 8:35:24 AM
Graeme Swallow General It looks like a genetic mutant. Suddenly the asthetics of the SD70M-2 seems a lot more tolerable. 12/27/2010 6:00:09 AM
Cristiano Oliveira General Jesus! Just one word for that: "Awful"! CSX is spoiling their locomotives... I just regret and hope that idea don't go ahead! 12/29/2010 3:09:16 PM
Daniel DiFiore General It is SO much better than the widecab GE GARBAGE running around here. If you think it's ugly, don't shoot it... 1/12/2011 1:08:09 PM
Dave Eagen General Yargh!! It's cab is hurting my eyes! Make it go away. 1/22/2011 8:58:05 PM
Kris Rumbut General I prefer the 40-2 but at least these are extending the life of the 40 series. Cought them on film today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNnT2IrtVq4 2/5/2011 3:37:46 PM
Brandon Brinager General I absolutely despise these units...lol I have put in many many hours washing, body filling, hand sanding, and painting these god aweful things! they might be ugly but csx has a incredible amount of money and man hours tied up in these units! first 10 out the door and already I think 5 of the 20 thats to be done this year have began! 2/23/2011 12:53:40 PM
Brandon Brinager General Did I mention instead of the normal sandblasting we normally do before painting begins we have had to hand sand these entire units for fear of damaging any of the new components! 2/23/2011 12:57:56 PM
David Nutter General Nice! 4/17/2011 9:52:38 PM
Connor Chinoy General A-HEM, everyone, kindly stop insulting it. A train's a train, and besides, it'll stand out among these thousands of "safety" cab monsters. I like it. And yes, it could easily be built out of LEGO's, but isn't that good? A good model for a new builder to try. 5/5/2011 2:48:40 PM
Connor Chinoy General Furthermore, @Daniel: Amen! and @Brandon: That's a little bit completely insane. HAND SAND an entire 6-axle locomotive? 5/5/2011 2:50:09 PM
Justin Sandlin General HOW UGLY! 11/28/2011 2:00:45 PM
Thomas Boyer General This locomotive stands out from the others, in a GOOD way. It is good for CSX to have their own unique design to compete with Norfolk Southern's Admiral Cab. 7/23/2016 1:27:45 PM
Chessie System fan General It's SpongeBob cab 10/10/2022 5:10:56 PM
