AMTK 2401 "Bad Axe River" (Ex GN 1264)
BAD AXE RIVER was a built by Pullman-Standard in December 1950 as Great Northern 1264. It was originally a Plan 4181 car with 7 duplex roomettes, 1 compartment, 3 double bedrooms and 4 sections; but was remodeled into Plan 4181A with 7 duplex roomettes, 6 double bedrooms and 1 compartment in May 1963. Only 16 Plan 4181 cars were built, 15 for the GN and one for the SP&S; and Amtrak only bought three of these (2400-2402). (approximate month)

Ted Brumberg General These Plan #4181 sleepers actually had 8 duplex roomettes, 1 of which was always reserved for crew use, hence some sources list these cars as having 7 duplex roomettes. 2/13/2015 10:17:06 PM
