After the passage of tug boat "Arapaho" in the Cerritos Channel, the Pacific Harbor Lines Badger Bridge is slowly lowered back into place to allow BNSF Railway train S-ALTSCO1-16V (with BNSF 7920, 7577 and 7697 for power), which is patiently waiting to cross, to complete its journey from Alliance, Texas to Terminal Island - on the far side of this span. This vertical lift bridge was constructed in 1996 by Adams & Smith Incorporated, replacing another lift bridge built in 1924 connecting Terminal Island (formerly Rattlesnake Island) to the rest of the country. This bridge has a vertical clearance ranging from 6.7 feet (bridge down) to 165 feet (bridge up). [Photographed from railroad property with permission.]
