| B&M P-4-a 4-6-2 3713 has returned to the East Somerville engine terminal (Boston) and is being serviced after taking an excursion train to Portland. This may be the last photo of 3713 in steam. I shot her with available light. Built by Lima in 1934, the Pacific is being restored at Steamtown. Steam continued to power commuter trains for a few more months but 3713 pulled the last long distance steam train and was not suitable for the commuter trains. She lasted this long mainly because she was equipped to operate with a snow conveyor/melter. Note that only half the coal tower shows in the photo - it serviced six tracks. |
