Interesting place for a derailer

Bernie Feltman	General	Commercial real estate is much more valuable if it includes railroad track, even if that track isn't connected to the main or branch. Our good friend, the NS Track Supervisor, got a lesson in this several years ago when he had to reinstall the tracks (not the switch or frog) that once served a thriving customer and were removed without the owner's prior knowledge. The owner didn't want to pay for maintaining the switch but he absolutely wanted the track put back like it was as he was trying to sell the property and was looking for extra $$$	7/22/2012 3:13:35 PM

Dave Howarth Jr.	General	I have seen this sort of thing occur in my hometown a few years back but in this case the city took two sections of track out to put sidewalks in without notifying the railroad! Needless to say the railroad was not too worried considering the spur was no longer used. In this photo, it just goes to show there is nothing like a "Last Chance" scenario for that crew with no notice of the track ending! LoL!	3/8/2013 5:49:39 AM

Interesting place for a derailer
I think once it gets here, it's too late. Actually this track used to extend further and tie into the main track that went to Columbus. It seems the company no longer receives carloads of farm chemicals so the switch was taken out and the track to the clear point. Trackage was left beyond that point and it included the derailer. I guess they figured they would leave the derailer for whatever reason.
