CTA Single Car         
One of the Chicago Transit Authority single cars in the 1-49 number series arriving at Linden Avenue in Wilmette, Illinois on an unknown day in November 1976, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. It appears that a lot of coasting was required to negotiate this yard.

Tom Beckett General Cool shot. As a some time visitor to Chicago, I liked those cars. I grew up in NY, and recall that the NYCTA and LIRR never liked to run trains shorter than 4 cars, due to the 3rd rail gap issue. I've heard stories from subway motormen about having to use a 3rd rail jumper when a short train got caught in a gap. Not something you want to ever do. 5/8/2016 12:49:52 AM
