Pink Lady Ballast
During the summer of 2015, "Pink Lady" ballast began to make an appearance on the WSOR line from Horicon to Oshkosh. This shot was taken at the Burr Oak Road grade crossing in Fisk. Some areas have had a heavier application of the ballast from a quarry near Rock Springs, Wi. The WSOR had been operating the line, which the quarry is located on, via a lease with the Union Pacific. The Wisconsin D.O.T. secured an agreement to purchase the line from the U.P. for $30 million in 2014. The WSOR is still the operator of the former C&NW corridor which runs from Madison to Reedsberg, and now Pink Lady ballast can be found spreading throughout the WSOR system, as seen here on this former Milwaukee Road line.

T. P. Bruss General Awesome photograph and information! It is great to see that beautiful, distinctive ballast in use again. I wish I could see modern C&NW running over it, but that is obviously no longer possible. It would be cool if WSOR made this their primary ballast. 10/17/2015 4:00:31 AM
