We frequently went to NY Yankee games-they were playing at Shea during the 1974 and 75 seasons while Yankee Stadium was being rebuilt-and it was an easy train ride from our house in Little Neck, or my grandmothers house in Manhasset. An eastbound train approches Shea Stadium after a game on a Sunday afternoon. The station had eight tracks, as it was originally built for the 1964/65 Worlds Fair, though after the fair closed, they were excess. The LIRR used the space for a test facility, since the Port Washington Branch was a good place to run test equipment. The three former MU trailers are parked at the end of one of the yard tracks, probably awaiting some kind of modification. |
