PC 3148, GP-40, 1973
Hazy. Here is an original telephoto view that I took of Penn Central Railroad trains in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during July of 1973. Shown here (R to L) are PC engine #3148 and another unit whose number is not recorded. #3148 is a GP-40 built by EMD in September of 1968. They are about to pass under the 4th Street Bridge with a merchandise freight train on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. Also visible on the right are several freight trains awaiting crews and engines to pull them up the Allegheny Mountains, too. Photo taken from the 4th Street Bridge.
