NSW 0-8-0 #73 - Northwest Steel & Wire  Contributor's Pick!
Caught by an unknown photographer, NSW #73 sits in an abandoned spot while a sister unit powers up. Looks are deceiving. #73 has the distincton of being the last steam locomotive used at Northwest Steel & Wire in December of 1980 and one of the very last working industrial steam engines in the United States. #73 was then donated to the town of Sterling and placed in honor by the company owner's house.

John Schumann General Sorry Gary, I have to call you out on the last steam statement. Last actual industrial operation of a fired steam engine was actually Great Western Sugar's plant in Fort Morgan, CO, 1983. Last fireless cooker run was in Harbour Beach, MI at a plant in 1994. 1/8/2017 11:06:14 AM

Alan Fricker General Only got to see these at work once, in 1979. I was in Sterling for a job interview. Didn't get the job, but the trip was a success in my opinion! 1/8/2017 7:41:25 PM
