RRC 5838 - Boonville IN - 09/30/17
Respondek Railroad Corporation made a wise decision when they resurrected the bright green paint formerly used by Illinois Terminal Railroad, as it is bright enough to make their equipment visible (and not blend in with the safety yellow or orange on high-visibility vests worn by workers these days), and it very attractive color on top of that. Switching the Liberty Coal Mine in Boonville, IN, are a pair of Respondek's SD40-2s: RRC 5838 dressed in green (the former Canadian Pacific 5838, and later Indiana & Ohio Railroad 4084) and RRC 5690, wearing a red scheme and lettered for Squaw Creek Southern (also a former CP engine, later sold to St. Lawrence & Hudson, both of which also numbered it 5690). On this September 30, 2017, date, RRC 5690 was not yet fully painted. (Photographed on private property with permission and full PPE.)
