CR-operated former PC E-7A's 4244 and 4233 rest behind the South Amboy engine facility in July, 1978. After many years of service, and use on the NY&LB replacing GG-1's at the end of the electrified line, these two E-7A's appear ready for retirement.

Tom Beckett General These units were rather spotty at the end of their careers, and were often out of service. There were three-4224 was the other, if I recall-that stayed on the roster til 1979. I went there on an admittedly sporadic basis in those days, and never saw one of them running. I also missed CR 4014(ex EL 825), which had come to Jersey after the Youngstown-Cleveland commuter train came off in 1977, and kept its EL paint til it was retired-I digress....The NY&LB was the last stand for E 7's in the US, putting them in good company, as the line also hosted the last runs of PRR steam in November 1957. 5/7/2018 5:08:55 AM
