CO 4-8-4 #614 - Chesapeake & Ohio
Interesting loco built by Lima in June of 1948. Massive, powerful and commanding to say the least and a loco with nine lives. The unit would continue long after the other Greenbriers (4-8-4's to the C&O) were retired. It was a test loco for the American Coal Enterprise as they tried developing a coal burning steam locomotive that could compete with diesel loco on a cost basis. It also served as the Chessie Safety Special. This photo by Arthur B. Johnson.

Rev. Jonathan Spurlock General Minor correction, Gary: Clifton Forge is in VA, not WV. Regardless, thanks for posting this photo of one of the survivors! 11/9/2018 2:10:58 PM
