Photo Caption: "A group of freight locomotives are posed in this view of the Western Roundhouse of the Altoona Machine Shops, circa 1882." This Roundhouse is located near the intersection of 9th Avenue & 17th Street. The locomotive in the forefront is PRR engine #344, a Class D (4-6-0) "Ten-Wheeler" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during August of 1872 and retired in January of 1893 after 21 years of faithful service. |
