PRR 3608, H-9S, 1949
Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken on 29 June 1949. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #3608, an H-9S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during November of 1913 and retired in October of 1955 after 42 years of faithful service. Note that the driving rods have been removed! The exact location is not recorded. Many thanks to Mr. Robert Hess for correctly identifying this locomotive. Raymond C. Laws Collection.

Robert Hess General I am pretty certain that this H9s is actually No. 3608. H9s 3609 was renumbered in1915 to No. 5172 and kept that number until retired in May 1952. H9s No. 3608 was built with that number and kept it until sold for scrap in October 1955. 3608 was assigned to the Philadelphia Terminal division in the PRR M.P.229 'Assignment of Locomotives' form dated July 1949, just a month after the photo was taken. 10/20/2020 10:12:08 PM
