Kern. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred Kern that was taken near Matawan, New Jersey, on 27 August 1954. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #1139, a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during July of 1917 and retired in 1956 after 39 years of faithful service. In this context, it's rockin' 'n' rollin' at 50 miles per hour with six-car passenger Train #711.
