It was published originally in "The Mutual Magazine" and republished later in the July 1943 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 34. Photo Caption: "Ready to leave Pittsburgh. No. 6111 at the head end of the 'Juniata.' Engineman Wian is at the window with Fireman Ashcroft and author Russ Davis Davis in the doorway." Partially visible here is PRR engine #6111, a T-1 (4-4-4-4) "Duplex" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in May of 1942 and retired in December of 1953 after just 11 years of revenue service. |
