Cumberland City Turn
The Cumberland City turn approaches the Cumberland River drawbridge at Clarksville. This bridge has an interesting history. In 1906 the locomotive, tender, mail car, and baggage car of a northbound passenger train went into the river when the engineer ran through the open draw. A similar instance occurred in 1947 involving a local freight train that was dropping a cut off cars at the old Clarksville freight depot (which was located on the opposite side of the track from where I am standing).
