PRR 3747, K-4S, 1956
Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide via Al Chione that was taken in Bay Head Junction, New Jersey, on 15 August 1956. The photographer is not identified. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #3747 and #5882. #3747 is a K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacific" built in Juniata during March of 1920 and retired in November of 1957. #5882 is an EP-20 built by GM-EMD in April of 1949 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. This shot pretty much sums up the situation in 1956: the near total eclipse of coal power by oil power. ("LouisFols"; #12 of 21)
