L&N E9A 785
New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal SW 8 number 1 was on the NOUPT service track coupled to Illinois Central E9A 2021 and E9B 2100, while Louisville & Nashville E8A’s 785 and 795 were on the ready track. The E-units had come in that morning, on the IC’s PANAMA LIMITED and the L&N’s PAN-AMERICAN, and they would be going back out later that afternoon. With the advent of Amtrak on 1 May, these trains left for the very last time exactly three weeks after this photo was taken.
