CofG 690 and ATSF 1511
Here were former Central of Georgia lunch counter-diner-lounge car 690 and former Santa Fe café-observation car 1511 parked along 5th Street at Chicon Street in Austin, Texas. The 690 was still lettered for the CofG, while the 1511 was lettered TEXAS TRANSPORTATION MUSEUM. Car 690 had been built by American Car & Foundry in July 1947 for operation on the CofG’s NANCY HANKS II while the 1511 was one of five cars that had been built by the Pullman Car & Manufacturing Co. in 1926 as ATSF 1508-1512. The Santa Fe had donated the 1511 to the TTM and it was subsequently loaned to the Texas State Railroad for continued operation.
