| 8500 GTEL X-26 is on display at Ogdens Union Station. It was one of 30 8500 horsepower Gas turbines UP owned, and one of 2 that has been preserved. UP 18, the other preserved GTEL, is at Union, Illinois. Both the 26 and 18 were stored in Cheyenne, Wyoming in the late 60s, and were the last two turbines retired by UP. The remaining 8500 GTELs, all the Veranda and Standard 4500 GTELs, and oddballs such as the coal turbine, steam turbines, and the double-ended UP 50 were all scrapped. |
