Here is page two of a three-page article entitled "Horseshoe Curve: 100-Year Wonder." It was published originally in the February 1954 issue of "Pennsy" magazine, page 2. Excerpt From The Text: "A railroad guide book of 1862, published by George H. Thurston at Pittsburgh, told the passengers that [this horseshoe bend] was 'the grandest view on the whole route. A vast extent of landscape is spread out before the eye . . . . This horseshoe bend is one of the greatest engineering triumphs of the age." Notable here is an artist's depiction of the Pennsylvania Railroad's right-of-way from the Gallitzin Tunnels almost to the Curve. |
