AHC. Here is an original 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, in April of 1968. Shown here (R to L) are Penn Central engines #6048 and #6096. Both are SD40's built by GM-EMD for the Pennsylvania Railroad and rated at 3,000 horsepower each. #6048 was constructed in February of 1966, while #6096 was built one month later. In this context, they're rounding the Curve on their way down to East Altoona for yet another helper or pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and back.
