Rivet Removal
Before bolts, steel fabricators and erectors used rivets to build structural steel members. In order to remove and refurbish G1 and its sidewalk girders, they must be separated--and the first step in that separation is to remove all 24 rivets (12 on each side of the girder) that hold the sidewalk girders to the main girder. The girder is white after lead abatement and priming ahead of shipment to the steel shop for repairs.
