The locomotive was built by the Lima Locomotive Works in August of 1930 and served for nearly 19 years before dieselization took over its role in railroading. It was scrapped in December of 1949. Original specs - 63" drivers, impressive 240 psi boiler pressure, 28x30" cylinders, engine wt of 396,000 lb and tractive force of 69,800 lb. No date, location or photographer was listed on the photo. Date & location are approximates. |

Surprise |
| Description: |
I went into Caseys for a quick donut, and came out to get set to return home. I was texting my wife when I heard rumbling, only to look up and find a coal train passing me. Should have gone over by the station, at least would have had a chance at a good shot, but instead just got the three unit DPU. Oh well.... |

Great roster shot of Boston & Albany 4-6-6T #404 as it sat in Boston, MA. I left it in the beautiful original sepia color rather than converting it to a b&w. In June of 1951, it was retired and sold for scrap in August of 1951. Specs - 63" drivers, 215 psi boiler pressure, 23.5x26" cylinders, engine wt of 242,000 lb and tractive effort of 41,600 lb. Rail fan L. P. Convivall took this photo but no date or location was given. |
