Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #2219, #7008, #7147, and #7230. All were built by EMD. #2219 is an EF-22 built in 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #7008, #7147, and #7230 are EFS-17M's rated at 1,750 horsepower each; they were built in 1955, 1957, and 1959 respectively. They are pulling an eastbound merchandise freight under the 24th Street Bridge.

Description:  24th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 11 October 1963. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #5850, #5803, and #5849. All were built by EMD. #5850 and #5849 are EP-20's built in 1947 and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. #5803 is an EP-22 built in 1952 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They are about to pass under the 24th Street Bridge and will shortly stop at the Altoona Passenger Station for a crew change with a 27-car mail/express train. The famous Brick Plant is visible in the right center of the photo.

They are about to pass under the 24th Street Bridge with a 108-car mixed-cargo freight train on their way through Altoona to the Enola Yards. The caboose is #477777.

They are about to pass under the 24th Street Bridge with a 103-car mixed-cargo freight train on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. Both are EF-15A's built by EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each; #9657 was built in 1950, but #9766-B was built in 1951. They are about to pass under the 24th Street Bridge with a 76-car mixed-cargo freight train on their way up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West. The N-8 caboose is #478171. Bringing-up the rear are three ALCo "pushers": #8678, #8674, and #8667. The 73-car eastbound TrucTrain on the next track over is headed by engine #2249. They are pushing a 76-car mixed-cargo freight train (headed by engine #9657) up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin, where they will uncouple and head back down the Alleghenies to East Altoona for yet another run up the Mountains. They have just come down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve with a merchandise freight train, and will soon pass through Altoona on their way to Enola and points East.
