IC 0-8-0 #30 |
Description: |
Built by Alco-Schenectady in 1923 for the Grand Trunk Western as their #8300, this little switcher has an interesting life. Reitred by GTW in 1959, it was sold to Northwestern Steel & Wire Co along with 15 of its sisters replacing the CBQ 0-6-0's working there. The loco worked the Northwestern scrapyard in Sterling, IL, until being retired again in 1980. The company donated #8300 and eleven other switchers to the Illinois Rwy Museum. The museum cosmetically restored #8300 but eventually traded it and 4 others to a Chicago scrapyard in exchange for CBQ 2-8-2 #4963. Poor #8300 lanquished on a siding in Galt, IL until being purchased in November, 2000, for dispaly at the Buchanan County Visitor Center. Here it was renumbered as IC #30. |

Built by Alco in 1930 for the Chesapeake & Ohio, it now sits in a scrap line, face plate removed, in a location listed as Ganley's Ridge, WV, by the photographer R.D. Patton. For the life of me, I can't seem to find where that is. Does anyone know this location? No date was given but since the entire C-16 class was retired between 1954-57, I listed it as 1954. Jonathan Spurlock (see comment below) found Handley, WV, as a location that does seem to fit the background very closely so I have identified the location as Handley, WV.. Could Ganley's Ridge be one of the hills in the background? |

CO 0-8-0 #235 - Chesapeake & Ohio |
Description: |
Sadly this 1930 Alco built 0-8-0 yard switcher has seen its last days of service as it sits lined out in an unidentified yard. No date was given for the photo but since the entire class was retired between 1954-57, it would be in that range. Unknown photographer took this sad sight. |
