CB&Q (Burlington Route) E-7A Running Fast Out of Chicago, 1971  Contributor's Pick!       
In March of 1971, EMD E-7 9936, still lettered for the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy and paired with a sister A-unit, speeds out of Chicagos Union Station with an afternoon rush hour commuter train. The EMD E-7 was a 2,000 horsepower A1A-A1A locomotive produced between 1945 and 1949 by GMs Electro-Motive division. 428 of these locomotives were produced. with 44 going to the CB&Q. Only one E-7A unit survives today: Pennsylvania Railroad 5901, at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.

Tom Beckett General E's and smoke and speed. Even thought they are still probably at restricted speed-there's a sharp curve onto the Q main line as it heads west toward Halsted St-that train looks like it means business, and is getting out of town with a vengeance.
