Gauley Bridge office, looking west  Contributor's Pick!
C&O had (has?) a line that branched off from the main tracks, crossed the New River and headed north out of Gauley Bridge, WV. As late as the early 80's, this station had a more or less dedicated engine (usually a GP9) and plenty of hopper cars. There was no engine and there weren't any cars on this August day in 1987. I love the "board-and-batten" construction, typical of many C&O structures. The paint, although beginning to fade, was apparently C&O's standard gray color, rather like battleship gray to my untrained eye!
