| F59PHI 2007 rests at Diridon on a early June afternoon. At one time, F59s were common on Amtraks western corridor services, but with the sale of Amtraks 21 units to Metra, the state-owned PHIs became the last bastion of EMD units in Amtrak service in the west. F59s are also operated by Sounder in the Pacific Northwest and by Metrolink in Southern California, although the Metrolink engines are reaching the end of their careers as well. |
