The locomotives are on the spur to the mine which veers aways from the main line just ahead of NS 9103. Junction City Mining is jointly served by CSX and Norfolk Southern though technically located on CSX. Norfolk Southern must utilize a spur of several miles in length specifically constructed to allow direct NS service
The conductor is walking from the bottom of the train, at the Junction City Mining Company switch, and checking the brakes on his way to the locomotives. The engineer has already called the dispatcher and told her to put a call out for a crew to take this train onward from Macon to Valdosta on its journey to Florida
