CN Turcot Yard roundhouse & turntable
Description:
Looking very much like a posed shot, Anthony H. Perles was able to capture a nearly full roundhouse collection posing at the Turcot Yard in Montreal, Canada. The roundhouse was demolished in 1962 and the yard reduced to only a few tracks with a massive road interchange built on the site to handle the car traffic through the area. The locos in the photo are left to right - CN 3424 (2-8-2). 3304 (2-8-2), 5282 (4-6-4), 46 (4-6-4T), 2567 (2-8-0) and 3488 (2-8-2).

The Montreal Locomotive Works built this 2-8-2 Mikado as CGR #2917 (serial #58364) in 1917. Upon the merger and creation of Canadian National in 1919, the loco was renumbered to CN #3317 (class S-1-c). It served the CN until it met the scrapper's torch ion September of 1955. CN 2-8-2 #3429 - Canadian National
Description:
Built as GT #524 (serial #52812 in 1918 by Alco-Schenectady, the 2-8-2 Mikado loco was renumbered CN #3429 (class S-1-f) when the Grand Trunk was absorbed into the new Canadian National Railway. The loco served until it met the scrapper's torch in April of 1960. No exact day in 1937 was given. Unknown photographer.

Caught passing by the Toronto Union Station, this 2-8-2 Mikado was built by the Montreal Locomotive Works in 1913 as CNR #563 (serial #53933). It was renumbered in 1923 to CN 3468 (class S-1-f). The loco was scrapped in September of 1961. Normal Thompson photo.

Description:
With the crew member hanging on the end, the engineer slowly backs past an unidentified station. Built by the Montreal Locomotive Works in 1913 as GTR #565, it merged into the CN roster as 3470 in 1923. Specs - serial #53935, class S-1-f, 63" drivers, 175 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 272,100 lb, tractive effort of 51,638 lb. The loco was scrapped in August of 1961. No date, location or photographer was given for the photo.

Description:
Beautiful early morning photo of a steam engine "waking up" to a new day of service. Note on back by unknown photographer states "CN 3480 (2-8-2) class S-1f (1913) getting ready for service (helper for ?unreadable?) at Niagara Falls (Ont) engine term." MLW, 1913, ex-GTR 575, serial #53945, class M3, Absorbed into the CN roster and renumbered in 1923 to CN 3480. The loco was scrapped in March of 1960.

GTW 0-8-2 #3522 - Grant Trunk Western
Description:
A crew member takes a break while sitting on the pilot of a rare locomotive - a 0-8-2 wheel configuration built by the Grand Trunk Western in 1936-37. This was a conversion of class S-1-h to 0-8-2 by removing the pilot truck which places more weight on the drivers making them more suitable for yard work. Original specs - Alco-Schnectady, 1918,2-8-2, 27x30-inch cylinders, 63-inch drivers, and a boiler pressure of 175 pounds, 52,000 pounds of tractive effort.
